This has been a huge week for Game of Thrones fans. First there was a confirmation from George R.R. Martin that there will be a delay in the release of Winds of Winter and then there was this news that the entire plot of Season 6 has been revealed by an anonymous user at 4chan. Now HBO has finally announced the premiere date for season 6 and has also confirmed that they are in talks with Game of Thrones producers for extending the series till season 8.
The first episode of the Game of Thrones season 6 will be aired on 24th April this year. Since George R.R. Martin is still finishing Winds of Winter, a lot of season 6 will be based on the knowledge that Dan and Dave have been able to get from George R.R. Martin about where the characters are headed.
Unlike books, which have a lot of storylines that need to be concluded, the show focusses on few main characters. Therefore, it’s easy for them to do a 10 episode season and connect the story to Winds of Winter for season 7 and 8. It’s a win-win for fans, first they get to see the show and find out the fate of Jon Snow, and once the show is over they can look forward to reading their copy of Winds of Winter.
