The group matches to qualify for ICC T20 World Cup 2016 will start on 8th March with 8 teams vying for 2 spots in the Super 10. Super 10 (8 test playing nations plus 2 qualifiers) will begin on 15th March with dark horse New Zealand taking on the favorites India.
Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is when will India play Pakistan. For long Mohali has been hosting India-Pakistan matches, however, this time around the match will be held on 19th March in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala will be hosting the most anticipated match of the tournament and India would hope to continue its streak of never losing a world cup match to Pakistan.
A total of 58 tournament matches, including 35 men’s matches and 23 women’s matches, will be played in Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi. New Delhi and Mumbai will host the semi-finals on 30th and 31st March. Eden Gardens in Kolkata will be the venue of the final to held on 3rd April.
The qualifying matches for Super 10 will take place in Dharamsala and Nagpur and will feature:
Group A: Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland, Oman
Group B: Zimbabwe, Scotland, Hong Kong and Afghanistan
The group winner will qualify for Super 10 which will begin on 15th March.
Super 10 have been divided into 2 groups as well:
Super 10 Group 1: Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, England and the Group B winner
Super 10 Group 2: India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand and the Group A winner
This tournament may be the last we will see MS Dhoni lead India in a World Cup match. One player who would be most anxious for the tournament will be Yuvraj Singh. He was the villain as far as Indian fans are concerned in last the ICC T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. His form ever since his comeback has been questionable with very little opportunity for batting in a powerful Indian batting lineup.
