George R.R. Martin has done the unthinkable. And unbelievable. The Game of Thrones TV Series for the Season 6 will appear before the book editions. Whether this is a publicity stunt or a calculated move, we won’t know immediately.
How does it all work for Game of Thrones TV Series and Books?
George R.R. Martin, the author of the TV Series and Books has been working closely with HBO writers to help the series mirror the books, but the next season is due to start in April 2016 and Martin’s sixth book, the Winds of Winter, will not be ready by then. Martin usually finishes writing books at least 120 days before the Game of Thrones TV Series debuts. This means, by November 30, the book should be written and sent to publishers. This year that has not happened. Not even by December 31, which was the revised deadline.
This is not hearsay. This comes right from the horses mouth. In his blog about the sixth book, The Winds of Winter, George R Martin, announced the delay in finishing the book. He even prefixed the announcement with: You wanted an update. Here’s the update. You won’t like it.
He further wrote:
THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished.
After another paragraph he repeats:
But the book’s not done.
Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week.
George R Martin apologized to his fans and said, “I won’t make excuses. There are no excuses. No one else is to blame. Not my editors and publishers, not HBO. It’s on me. I tried, and I am still trying.”
Well, we for one, think this is a silver lining. No one really knows what will happen in Game of Thrones TV Series this season. And, the books will do well because they always have more than the TV Series and have built up a loyal reader base. When the TV Series releases and when the books release, there will be a rush!
